New Directions helps people hunting for a new career or a fresh challenge
People looking for work or volunteering opportunities are signing up to attend our life-changing event New Directions.
Held in Alton on Friday 27 October the event is perfect for anyone thinking about making a fresh start – whether that’s a new career, a new volunteering challenge or learning a new skill.
It is particularly valuable for workers in later life that are looking for new opportunities. And with free bus travel being provided the event is open and accessible to all.
“During the pandemic the number of workers seeking unemployment related benefits doubled,” said Robert Mocatta, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Prosperity.
“More people in their middle years are now economically inactive than any other age range. And older people who are unemployed are likely to be out of work much longer than younger people.
“But that age group still has so much to give, in terms of skills, experience and knowledge. They just need the right opportunity to get back into the workplace.
“That’s where New Directions comes in. People from across the area will have the chance to meet a wide range of employers, training services and voluntary organisations - all under one roof – and each keen to put their skills to work.”
New Directions consists of local organisations showcasing their opportunities, instructive and inspirational speakers and workshops that will help you make the most of your skills.
And for those looking for a thrilling new experience, the event will also feature a fantastic helicopter simulator, complete with VR headsets, run by the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.
Cllr Rob Mocatta, of East Hampshire District Council, will attend the event and keynote speakers throughout the day will include the former paralympic swimmer Ryan Gratrix.
Although the event is being held in Alton, free bus travel is being laid on across the district. EHDC has teamed up with Community First to provide free transport to get you to and from the event. See below for booking details.
