The group will work together to ensure that we take the necessary steps to reach our ambitions to be carbon neutral for council operations by 2035.

Councillor Ginny Boxall, who was elected as chairman of the group at the meeting, said:

“All of our group are committed to our carbon neutral target and, from the discussions we had today, I’m positive that our group will be able to accelerate the council’s progress with the goal of being carbon neutral by 2035 if possible.

“We discussed progress of the carbon audit which will set the baseline from which the council will improve.

“The council’s own carbon footprint is something we have a direct influence on, but we’ll do everything we can to support community groups and encourage East Hampshire’s residents and businesses to reduce their environmental impact.”

Rob Mocatta, portfolio holder for Regeneration and Prosperity (which includes climate and environment), said:

“I’m looking forward to seeing how the group can support the council’s carbon reduction ambitions.

“It is important that we deal with climate change as a non-political issue.”

We’re currently working on a new Climate and Environment strategy which will be published in early 2024.
