From 31 July community groups, local councils and charities can apply for money set aside for infrastructure projects.
As part of the planning process new homes built in East Hampshire provide money that can be put towards improving infrastructure in the local area.
Local groups can find out if there are funds available in their area and request funding for their infrastructure project.
Developers’ contributions can be collected and allocated under a variety of legal procedures. On 31 July applications open for Section 106 funding.
EHDC’s Section 106 funding is available only to fund projects in parishes outside the South Downs National Park. Those inside the park can apply for similar funding from the South Downs National Park Authority.
Projects applying for Section 106 funding must meet one of the following criteria:
- Public Open Space
- Environmental Improvement
- Community Facilities
Cllr Robert Mocatta, EHDC Portfolio Holder for Regeneration and Prosperity, said: “When new homes are built in East Hampshire developers must make a financial contribution to the council which is used to improve the local infrastructure.
“This money is connected directly to the areas that have seen development, and will be allocated to one of the three qualifying criteria, so some areas have more funds available than others.
“This is separate to CIL funding, which has different criteria and is used to fund growth. S106 funding has tighter criteria which have been agreed between the developer and EHDC as the planning authority.
"If your group is planning a new project that meets these requirements, there may be money available to support you. Get in touch with the council to find out.”
