Friday 24 February marks a year since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began. We’ll be flying the Ukrainian flag at Penns Place to recognise a year of defiance from the Ukrainian people.
Councillor Julie Butler, portfolio holder for Community Engagement, said:
“Friday is a solemn day. We will remember the people who have lost their lives in the conflict.
“It’s also a day to recognise the strength of the people of Ukraine and the generosity of the East Hampshire residents who have taken Ukrainian guests into their homes.”
Our website has a support for Ukraine section with information for both hosts and guests including information on mental health support that may be useful during this difficult anniversary.
Hosts and guests can sign up for our monthly Ukraine bulletins with information about support and activities available in the district.
If you’re able to host a Ukrainian family or individual, please complete the expression of interest form through our website.
We’re also planning drop-in events for Ukrainian guests and their hosts to meet with people who can help with things like access to benefits and travel. The dates and times are:
- Tuesday 16 May, 4-7pm at Alton Maltings
- Tuesday 6 June, 4-7pm at Petersfield Festival Hall
More details will be available nearer to the events.
