Community groups urged to put themselves forward to take over at Woodlands Hall in Headley

We are looking to transfer Woodlands Hall and the open space around it to another organisation, so it can be run locally to ensure its long-term protection and continue to provide valued services to the local community.

This is a fantastic opportunity for local groups and organisations to come forward and take ownership of Woodlands Hall in Headley, to run it in a way that best meets the needs of local residents.

East Hampshire District Council is seeking to devolve assets and services to community organisations where there is an appetite to operate community facilities locally.

Across East Hampshire, most community facilities are run by local community organisations and town & parish councils. These groups can run services more efficiently and better respond to local demand, enriching the places we live.

We are inviting community groups and organisations to submit their interest in taking on Woodlands Hall.

We want to see the hall continue to operate as a multifunctional community facility, so groups should take this into consideration when submitting interest. However, we are open to all community-use proposals, whether for the whole site, or parts of it.

To help us understand your proposals we have prepared a questionnaire to collect your feedback. Please click the button below for more.

EHDC has launched a new way of working with communities to give them more control over the facilities in their area.

Community Asset Transfer (CAT) allows a community organisation to take over publicly-owned land or buildings in a way that supports the public benefits and  empowers our local communities.

This approach aligns with the council’s priorities as set out in our Council Strategy.

Communities are encouraged to come forward and bid for assets which they can then manage.

Cllr Adeel Shah, Portfolio Holder for Community Development and Engagement, said: “Through the Community Asset Transfer we can help local organisations run the facilities in their own areas for public benefit.

This is a unique opportunity for groups to come forward and transform Woodlands Hall's future. Ensuring it is retained, owned and run by the community, keeping its doors open to serve residents of Headley and surrounding areas for years to come.

“Being able to make more decisions and have more control over their own assets will lead to thriving and resilient local communities.”
