East Hampshire residents can hire bikes for free from Cycle Sphere in Whitehill & Bordon

We've teamed up with Cycle Sphere, based in The Shed, to give East Hampshire residents the chance to hire bikes and e-bikes for up to two hours completely free of charge!

This amazing opportunity is part of a push to help people live healthier and more active lifestyles, as well as showing how easy it is to cycle around the town.

Whitehill & Bordon’s Green Loop is an award-winning network of paths that criss-cross through and around the town. At 7km long it connects areas of interest and local beauty, including the Hogmoor Inclosure, The Shed and Quebec Terrace.

The flat terrain and clear signposting make it the perfect safe, fun and family-friendly way to get some exercise and spend time together outdoors. It’s also a great route for an active commute, linking homes to businesses throughout the town.

Cllr Richard Millard, EHDC Leader, said: “People are always being encouraged to live healthy and active lifestyles, but to do that they need to have the right opportunities and facilities.

“We’re so lucky that we have the Green Loop right on our doorstep and now, thanks to our agreement with Cycle Sphere, people can borrow a bike to ride the Loop completely free.

“You can hire e-bikes or traditional pedal bikes and spend a couple of hours enjoying the town and the surrounding countryside.

“Not only is cycling great fun but it is also great for fitness and a much better alternative to getting in your car.”

Cycle Sphere sells, hires and repairs bikes. Its owner, Simon Bush, said:  “The Cycle Sphere team are excited about this partnership with EHDC to offer the free cycle hire scheme to local residents; we are keen riders ourselves and actively encourage people to get out and explore all the superb cycling opportunities we have on our doorstep including the Green Loop.

“We have already observed the increase in bicycle use in the town during our seven years in business for both leisure and personal transportation and this is a fantastic opportunity for locals that may not have access to a bike currently to use one and enjoy the benefits of the town developments in and around the Green Loop – it’s also a chance to try a different sort of bicycle like a mountain bike or an e-bike and even one with child transportation options.”

Each bike can be hired for two hours maximum and proof of identification will be required. The scheme is only open to residents of East Hampshire.

Maps are available to give riders the best routes around the town.
