If you need help, advice or support on any aspect of dementia, this is for you...

Our annual event will tell you everything you need to know, if you or someone you care about, has dementia.

People living with dementia, their carers, families, and friends are invited to come along to the East Hampshire Dementia Festival this October – to help them find specialist support and top advice from local charities and organisations.

This free drop-in event, run by East Hampshire District Council and Dementia Friendly Petersfield will take place on Friday 4 October from 10am to 3pm at the Petersfield Festival Hall, Petersfield GU31 4EA.

About the Dementia Festival

Our annual dementia festival, in its fourth year, will play host to all the services, support groups, charities and organisations that can help people living with the condition.

The festival is a marketplace of 30+ stalls and information stands, which provide dementia-related support. It also offers activities suitable for people with dementia as well as music, crafts and a chance to meet and chat with people who share similar experiences.

Local organisations taking part in the event include: Dementia Friendly Hampshire, The Rosemary Foundation, Right At Home, Home Instead East Hampshire and Midhurst, Everyone Active, Petersfield Dementia Choir and others.

A range of information stands, crafts and activities, presentations from legal and medical experts, and taster sessions will be taking place, as well as a live choir, and more.

This year, people have the chance to try the Dementia Bus Virtual Tour, a scientifically and medically proven method of giving a person with a healthy brain an experience of what dementia might be like. Allowing individuals to enter the world of the person and understand how simple changes can be made to really improve lives of people with dementia.

There is no need to book - simply turn up! Free parking and refreshments will be available.

EHDC Cllr Adeel Shah, Portfolio Holder for Community Development and Engagement, said: “The Dementia Festival offers wide-ranging advice and assistance from local organisations and support services on how to live with dementia.

"It provides expert advice and guidance, legal support, medical support, compassion and companionship for people concerned about memory loss in themselves or in a loved one.

"If you need help, advice or support on any aspect of dementia, this event is for you!”

Dementia Festival inspired by Jeff Williams

Audrey Morton, of Dementia Friendly Petersfield, said: "The idea for a Dementia Festival originally came from Dementia Champion and Coronation Volunteer Champion, Jeff Williams. Sadly, Jeff passed away shortly after last year's Dementia Festival 2023, but his legacy continues.

"Tribute must be made to Jeff who worked tirelessly to improve the awareness, support and information for anyone living with dementia, their families, friends and carers in the local area."
