Your voice matters on plan for the future of the district

You will soon be able to have your say on a plan that will shape the future of East Hampshire until 2040.

On Monday 22 January, we are launching a public consultation on our Draft Local Plan, a document that includes proposals and policies for housing and employment sites, together with the necessary infrastructure to support growth.

The Local Plan is a vital document that will affect areas of East Hampshire outside the South Downs National Park.

The Local Plan will deliver the homes the district needs to grow sustainably while supporting the health and wellbeing of our residents. We want to protect the natural and built environment, as well as make a significant contribution to the fight against climate change.

But we can’t do it without your help. That’s why we’re holding a six-week consultation, running from 22 January to 4 March.

You can comment from Monday 22 January, 2024

Cllr Angela Glass, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Regulation & Enforcement, said: “The Local Plan is one of the most important pieces of work we do as a council and has a direct impact on everyone who lives and works in the district.

“Building new homes contributes to a prosperous and thriving economy. Those homes must be affordable, of the right size, type and tenure and in the right location.

“The plan will help look after our residents by enabling community facilities that promote healthy lifestyles.

“It will encourage walking, cycling and use of public transport – better for us all and for the environment – while recognising the importance of private vehicles, especially in rural areas.

“Perhaps most importantly, this plan must limit the impact development has on the environment.

“By using low-carbon materials and building techniques we can limit green-house gas emissions during construction and maintain a high environmental performance throughout the lifetime of every new home.

“This is a crucial blueprint for the future of East Hampshire outside the South Downs National Park and I hope everyone takes part in the consultation when it opens on Monday 22 January. Your voice matters.”

Our consultation will be conducted on a digital platform allowing readers to head to the sections that are most important to them and then make their comments quickly and easily.
