Central government has launched its consultation on Hampshire’s devolution proposals – and you can have your say until Sunday 13 April.

The government is inviting those in the Hampshire area to have their say on the proposal to form a strategic authority.

Hampshire County Council, Portsmouth City Council, Southampton City Council and the Isle of Wight Council submitted a joint bid for devolution at the end of last year. And it was announced earlier this month that it would be part of a fast-track scheme.

Following this announcement the government has launched a consultation which asks about the following:

  • The proposed geography
  • Governance arrangements
  • Supporting the economy
  • Improving social outcomes
  • Local government services
  • Improving the local natural environment
  • Supporting the needs of local communities

Cllr Richard Millard, Leader of EHDC, said: “Our priority is always our residents, so our response to the government’s consultation will focus on residents and what’s best for them.

“But it is important that you give your views directly so please take the time to give the government your opinions.

“What’s important to me is creating efficient and effective public services that have the needs of residents at their heart.

“If we can reduce bureaucracy and make decisions about our area more locally via devolution, then that could provide tangible benefits to residents. But you are the ones receiving these services, so it is important that the government knows what you think.”
