Planning application notice
Residents who have recently used our planning systems will know we have a large backlog of unresolved applications.
We are sorry. We take full responsibility for these delays and are putting extra resources into clearing the backlog. Our goal is to ensure the planning service provides the best possible service for residents and developers.
Our planning team is working diligently to address the outstanding work that has arisen over the last few months. We are putting solutions in place but we know these will take time to take effect.
An increasing workload for the team and rising numbers of planning applications submitted by developers and the public have put extra pressure on the council’s planning service.
In January, the council upgraded a 26-year-old system to a new, modern planning portal. While this upgrade was absolutely essential, it led to a build-up of unresolved cases during the transition period.
We sincerely apologise for the delays in resolving applications and assure residents that we will be operating normally again as soon as we can.
