Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) are investing £10.6million to boost the electricity network; installing 18km of cable to provide a modern and more resilient network between Alton and Bordon.

Planned works

The joint bay work and cable pull will begin later this month and is expected to complete by Summer 2025. The first set of works are expected to start on 23 January 2025.

To allow the team to safely install the joint bays and feed the cable through, most of the work will be carried out under temporary traffic lights, helping to reduce the need for full road closures wherever possible. However, two road closures are required to complete specific parts of the work safely. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted, and maps of the closures and diversions will be available on our website closer to the time.

Where is the team going next?

Liphook Road near Windsor Road: 5 February to 16 February. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.

Headley Mill Farm: 7 February to 18 February. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.

Oakhanger Road near Yew Tree Cottage: 1 March to 5 March. The road will be closed to through traffic whilst the team complete horizontal directional drilling work. We will endeavour to re-open the road as soon as possible.

Oakhanger Road near Old Station Way: 11 March to 22 March. These works will take place under temporary traffic lights.

The remainder of the programme (April to Summer 2025) will be shared once agreed with Hampshire Highways.

What can you do?

For emergencies please dial 105

It is likely that the roadworks will create significant disruption for local businesses. No compensation is available from SSEN, however businesses affected by local disruption can apply for a temporary reduction in their business rates.

To do this they will need to submit an application to the District Valuation Office which is responsible for setting the rateable value.

Please remember that if businesses are in receipt of any Rate Relief and the Rateable Value is reduced, then the amount of relief received by them will also be reduced.
