On 21st January 2025, the Government published further details on the UPE scheme with further guidance for guests and sponsors. Guests should make an application to the Ukraine Permission Extension (UPE) scheme to extend their stay before their current permission expires. 

Applications can only be made when their current permission has 28 days or less remaining until it expires. Early or late applications will not be accepted and may lead to permission being denied.

The UPE scheme will continue to offer temporary sanctuary to Ukrainians and their eligible family members, and will:

  • provide up to 18 months permission to remain in the UK
  • provide the same entitlements to work, study, rent and receive benefits
  • be free to apply for

How to create your e-visa

From Tuesday 6 August 2024, any person with a biometric residence permit (BRP) expiring on 31 December 2024 can now create a UKVI account and access their eVisa, without needing an invitation from UKVI to do so.

For support, you can visit your local Citizens Advice centre who will be able to help you - 

Check your immigration status online

If you have already registered your eVisa account - please make sure that your immigration status is also active and correctly displayed.

You need to follow the link 'start now' (green button) and enter your BRP (biometric residence permit) number and date of birth as well as the 6-digit security code that will be sent to you.

If after these actions a page titled 'your immigration status' with your photo appears, it means that your eVisa account has been successfully registered.

Host thank you payments and funding tariffs

Nationally, the Government is setting payments at £350 per month for those hosts who provide accommodation to guests who have arrived in the country less than 12 months ago, and £500 for hosts of guests who have been in the UK for over 12 months. 

Hampshire County Council has decided locally to increase thank you payments for all hosts to £500 per month, regardless of how long their guests have been staying with them until March 2026.
