Large household items like sofas or fridges can’t be collected with your usual rubbish. For a fee, we can arrange to collect your bulky waste from your home.

Book a bulky waste collection

You must live in the district to be eligible for our bulky waste collection service. This service is only for householders, we cannot collect any trade or commercial waste.

Once you make your booking, we will give you a day of collection. Your bulky item should be left at the edge of your property by 7am, making sure it’s visible from the road and there is nothing in the way when we take it off your land. It must not block the public highway.

Disposal of upholstered furniture

If you're getting rid of an item of upholstered furniture, we'll need to collect it separately from other bulky waste.

What won’t we collect?

There are some restrictions on the items that we can collect.

For example, we will not collect:

  • glass and furniture with glass panels
  • commercial or trade waste
  • waste from property refurbishment (including fitted items such as whole bathroom suites, kitchen cupboards and fitted wardrobes)
  • hazardous waste, such as vehicles or similar
  • batteries and paints
  • building materials, fixtures and fittings
  • paving slabs, bricks, rubble, soil and trees
  • garage doors

We will not take garden waste as part of this service, however we do offer a garden waste service.

No builders rubble or soil will be collected. Small quantities should be taken to one of Hampshire County Council's Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs).

Where should I leave the items for collection?

We can only collect items from an open location, for example your front garden. The crew will not enter any property to collect items.

All gates must be unlocked. You should leave the items ready for collection by 7am. You will be provided with a definite day of collection.

If mattresses or sofas are placed outside for collection, please make sure these are covered to stop them becoming wet and too heavy to lift.

Find a licensed waste carrier

Licensed waste carriers are approved to dispose of bulky items and other waste.

By law, you are personally responsible for ensuring the safe and correct disposal of your unwanted items, even if you paid someone else to do it. If your waste is found dumped illegally you could be fined.

An approved waste carrier will be licensed, and will provide paperwork signing over the responsibility for the waste from you to their service.

The Environment Agency holds an online register of waste carriers which you can use to find help. Any approved waste carrier will have a licence available for you to check.
