Landscape capacity study 2018

The landscape capacity study (2018) provides an assessment of landscape capacity, an understanding of where landscape and visual impacts would be greatest and identifies areas which may have capacity to accommodate change. It covers the Planning Authority area.

An addendum in 2022 sets out how ‘valued’ landscapes are considered in the Landscape Capacity Study (2018).

A ‘Landscape Value Statement’ (2020) considered the 10 potential large development sites that were available for consultation in 2019.

Landscape character assessment 2024

A new landscape character assessment (2024) has been carried out which replaces the 2006 version.

This assessment covers the area of the district outside the South Downs National Park only. The detailed assessment of the South Downs National Park (2020), is available from the South Downs National Park Authority.

Some communities have completed their own more detailed landscape character assessment. These provide important local evidence that can be taken into account in relation to planning applications and planning policy.
